Happy International Translation Day – Help us to support Translators without Borders!

As most of you will no doubt be aware, today is International Translation Day! Ever since the International Federation of Translators declared 30 September as International Translation Day, it has become an important day to reflect on – and celebrate. And this year is no different – especially when you consider that translators typically crunch through 300,000 to 1,000,000 words throughout the course of a year.

Each year International Translation Day celebrates a theme and this year’s focus is on ‘connecting worlds.’ No other organisation embodies this vision during times of humanitarian crisis than ‘Translators without Borders.’

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Translators without Borders, it is a non-profit organisation “that aims to close the language gaps that hinder critical humanitarian efforts worldwide". The organisation’s work is invaluable, helping at times of extreme crisis, including the Ebola outbreak in West Africa and in the aftermath of the 2015 Nepal earthquake.

“On International Translation Day, Translators without Borders recognises the important role that translators play in connecting people everywhere to vital information. The translation profession contributes to empowering communities worldwide by giving them access to knowledge in a language they can understand." Aimee Ansari, Executive Director of Translators without Borders.

On this year’s International Translation Day, we want to give back to the industry and the truly inspiring work that Translators without Borders is doing every single day. That’s why for every visit to our dedicated Translators without Borders webpage on International Translation Day, we will donate €1.
