While it has only been a few weeks since I last reached out to you all, it really feels like a long time given the pace of unprecedented change and unknown that we are currently dealing with. We have continued to work hard to establish a “new normal” operating model across SDL, and in every one of the 39 countries we operate in.
I, therefore, wanted to say THANK YOU. It is because of the great work of my colleagues and the collaboration of all of you, our customers and partners, that I am proud to say WE DID IT. We have adapted well to this new way of working.
I think it is apparent to all of us, that in an environment like this, nobody can predict three days out, let alone three months or three years. However, we believe that the changes induced by COVID-19 will be here for a while – if not the virus or economic shock – but some of the changes it has forced onto us that will undoubtedly remain with us for a long time.
We will all have to deal with the repercussions of these changes for a while. Many of them will be positive, such as greater connectivity and new resources, including better e-communications, e-learning, e-fitness, e-socializing and e-health, as examples. And others will be negative, like the impact on health, loss of loved ones, stress on healthcare systems, weaknesses in the economy, just to name a few. In short, even if we deal with the clinical side of the pandemic soon, behavioural changes will likely stay with us and the world will change. However, from this, many new global content related opportunities will emerge and SDL is committed to working with you to deliver what you need.
In my previous letter, I talked about the SDL community, and would like to re-emphasize today that we see all our stakeholders – employees, customers, partners, and shareholders – as part of this valued group. Our main priority is to ensure you – as part of our community – are all safe and well, and you are getting what you need from us. We talked about this in our Business Continuity webinar last week, which you can listen to on demand. If there is anything we can do to support you during this difficult period, then please do not hesitate to reach out to us directly. We will be with you every step of the way on this journey, and putting you first.
Please also be reassured that the core DNA of SDL – our passion for customers, innovation and delivering on our strategy – all remains intact. We have a strong global base and capabilities to deal with this uncertainty. We have 24 / 7 capabilities, with secure platforms and data environments. We are responsive and have specialist knowledge across all industries. And, we are working diligently to mitigate any potential negative impact that this might have. Throughout all of this, we want to keep this community spirit alive and well, and make sure we are giving something back. One of the ways we will be raising funds for the less fortunate through our SDL Foundation, is by creating a cook book featuring a collection of recipes from around the world. If you have a favorite recipe you would like to share, do send it through to us, and it will be considered for the book.
Thank you for all your kind words of feedback and support over recent weeks and months. I genuinely believe that something good is emerging as a result of this and, like many of you, have been inspired by the genuine sense of community spirit, the uniting of people, and all the support we are giving each other.
