Everything started with the involvement of the SDL Foundation. At the beginning of the year, SDL Foundation promised to support the Cluj Build project run by the Habitat for Humanity International organization. The purpose? Provide vital funds for building a 50 square meter house for a young local family who cannot afford to purchase or rent their own and the second part was to build the house with the help of SDL staff volunteers. This time, it was SDL’s turn to get involved.
I’m so proud to let you know that every day during the week commencing 29 September, a team of around 73 colleagues worked along with the beneficiary of the house on the Cluj build site.
The enthusiasm was fantastic!
Feeling that you can help and be part of that family’s dream and feeling that your contribution has a significant impact on the community created a positive atmosphere and energy all around.
I noticed during the week that it wasn’t just volunteering work. It turned out to be a great team-building exercise where everybody acted as one team; being proud of themselves, each other and especially of the company.
Very excited, with modesty and under the joy of living their dream, the Gaspar family shared:
“We knew how the home was supposed to look like in the end, but to see it with your own eyes being built and to realize how big it will be, compared to what we had, is a great joy. We’re glad we had the opportunity to work together with such hardworking volunteers from SDL and we thank them for all their efforts.”
Impressed by the support of SDL Foundation and our volunteers work and dedication, Horea Jurcan – construction manager at Habitat for Humanity Cluj made the following statement:
“It was a great honor for us to see how the SDL volunteers took time off work or their own free time to participate in Cluj Build and to dedicate themselves to the mission of offering a family in need the chance to live in a decent place.
“Their participation motivates us to be even more dedicated to our projects and to encourage local volunteers to participate in building the Habitat for Humanity Cluj homes. Thanks SDL Foundation! Thanks SDL volunteers!”
The Cluj Build project, a testimonial:
“For the first time, I held a power tool called a jig, that needs to be held so it doesn’t vibrate, and you need to pay attention to cut straight, as it doesn’t have any guidance – I thought that was the most qualified thing I did. It was a great realization, to see the home built in a week and to have the feeling of wanting to participate and help as well,” said Speranta Chis, SDL volunteer.
