3 Interesting Things about SDL Trados Studio 2014

By Andy Reid   /   August 2, 2013

As the release of SDL Trados Studio 2014 draws closer, I wanted to reveal a couple of  things that might just give you a little time back.

Create AutoSuggest Dictionaries with smaller TMs
Autosuggest has been a huge success but sadly out of reach for some  translators. Previously a translation memory (TM) of 25k translation units was needed to start the creation of an Autosuggest dictionary. This level is now down to 10k, so those who have smaller TMs can more easily access this really powerful and productivity driving feature.

QuickMerge
Merging multiple files into one has always been possible through the Studio project creation wizard. However, there are times where you just want to merge a couple of smaller files instantly. Well now you can. QuickMerge means you can select a number of files, as many as you wish in fact, and instantly open them as a single document to work on. This saves huge amounts of time opening, closing and saving when working on many small files.

More Bilingual File Types on SDL OpenExchange
Another time consuming process is switching between different CAT tools. I find it’s a little like driving my wife’s car – all the switches are there, it just takes me longer to find them. The same is true if you find you get jobs that require you to ‘CAT hop’. So with the release of Studio 2014, and some help from the SDL OpenExchange, the number of file types supported will be extended. Wordfast has been supported for a few months and soon you’ll see support for StarTransit and memoQ. That means you can work on these files within your favourite translation environment. One tool for all…

With these little updates and many others SDL Trados Studio 2014 will give you more time back in your day. That means you can look forward to an extra cup of coffee…!

Check out what SDL OpenExchange has to offer.
